In this building are the offices of J.H. Millis, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, and of William B. Mewbome, Jr., President and Chief Operating Officer of the Corpora tion. Administrative offices here include Industrial Rela tions, Accounting and Information Services. Also in the building are the executive offices of Adams-Millis Hosiery Company. The office of Robert M. Bundy, Jr., President of the Hosiery Company, is located here, as are the offices for the Sales, Accounting and Customer Service Departments of the Company. Of Williamsburg styling, the building’s outstanding features are its handmade brick, the slate roof and the windows at the front entrance. These windows are made with glass panes of the “buUseye” design, popular in the Williamsburg era. The building contains 20,000 square feet of floor space. Corporate Office Is Hub Of Adams-Millis Corporation J.H. Millis Board Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Millis "Grew Up In Adams-Millis Plants If J.H. Millis, Chairman of the Board and Chief Execu tive Officer of Adams-Millis Corporation, quite early in life Ux)k an interest in and worked in the mills that were founded by his grandfather, J.H. Millis, and his associ ate, J.H. Adams, in 1904. In an interview recently, Mr. Millis recalled his teen age years when he worked summers while “on vaca tion’’ from school. He espe- cieiUy remembered the “hot boards’’ of the old boarding rooms, which long since have disappeared in the wake of advance production methods. Some research into back issues of AMCO NEWS found Mr. Millis’ late father addressing the Adams-Millis Board of Directors in 1952, [con’t on page 6 ] The Corporate Office of Adams-MiUis at 225 North Elm Street in High Point is the hub of activities for this Corporation, which is the world’s largest producer of diversified types of hosiery for men and women, boys and girls. In these offices, all planning is worked out for every phase of Adams-Mil lis’ production and market ing — from the first ideas for product development to the final link in the chain, when the customer purchases a pair of the Company’s socks or hosiery. In between these two points are such functions as purchasing raw material, setting up manufacturing schedules, determining how customers shall be billed for their orders and routing the deliveries of the goods to destinations throughout the United States as well as into Canada, Mexico, Ptmama, Puerto-Rico and Spain. This issue of AMCO NEWS takes a look at these various types of work in the Corporate Office and at the persons who perform these jobs. Mewbome, Jr. President and Chief Operating Officer Mr. Mewbome Corporate President Since 1974 William B. Mewbome, Jr., President and Chief Operating Officer of Adams- Millis, first became associ ated with the Corporation in 1970 when he was appointed Executive Vice President. He was elected to his present positions in 1974. Prior to his association with Adams-Millis, Mr. Mewbome was Vice Presi dent of Wachovia Corpora tion in Winston-Salem and also Vice President of Wa chovia Bank and 'Tmst Com- p^uly there. Earlier, he had been in partnership with his father in Roxboro in a lumber and concrete business. A graduate of Duke Uni versity, he served as an officer in the U.S. Navy.
